My name is Cindy. This site is a place to share my thoughts, reflections and faith journey. I call it Unruly Hope because:
One day I found myself speaking at a church largely populated by people experiencing homelessness, sharing my feelings of hopelessness because church stuff had broken my heart and I didn’t know where I belonged. They welcomed me with open arms.
A particularly large and exotic woman met me after worship. She was covered head to toe in coats and blankets, her hair was unkempt, she carried everything she owned in plastic grocery bags.
We hugged and I pulled away to meet others, but she held on. Over and over she said, “Don’t let go.”
And then she said, “Hope is found in the most unexpected places.”
She taught me that hope is unexpected; found in chaos or weirdness or ordinary; alive in the deepest places of spiritual, mental and physical bankruptcy. Hope is unruly.
