When my hubby and I visited San Francisco a few weeks ago we spent an entire day in Haight-Ashbury, home of the hippie movement of the 1960’s.
We had a blast. Haight-Ashbury is an eclectic neighborhood defined by self expression rather than social expectation. Everywhere you look there is creativity, connection, and a lifestyle of easy, natural peace.
People are literally yelling on the news this morning about who to keep in and who to push out. We’ve got a history of those conversations, not only in the U.S., but all over the world.
As for me, I’m trying real hard not to make anybody mad, but I guess that’s not possible if I have to pick a side.
What if we are having the wrong conversation altogether?

For one day a year, TBS’s 24-hour marathon of “A Christmas Story” eclipses everything else on TV and everything else in my life. It’s my first and favorite binge watch. It’s my kind of humor.
“A Christmas Story” captures the holiday tension between wonder and disappointment through the eyes of a child…the child we all were and still are on some level or another. Through the rest of December, we’ll explore the tension between holiday lights and our real world desire for more.
If I can offer you nothing else this Christmas, I can offer you this: The first episode of “A Christmas Story” starts on Thursday Dec. 24 at 12:00 AM.
You’re right Ralphie, there is more to it than this…
May integrity and honesty protect me, for I put my hope in you.

Ayaan Hirsi Ali was raised in a strict Muslim family. She grew up moving from one unstable country to another, surviving civil war, female mutilation, and beatings. She sought asylum in the Netherlands to escape a forced marriage. There she eventually became a citizen, earned a degree in political science and, as a member of Parliament, fought for the rights of Muslim women and the reform of Islam.
