Schedule Your Freedom

Dear Calendar, thanks for taking care of me, but I need some flexibility from you. – Me.

My friend and fitness hero Jamie Miles says the best way to stay committed to your exercise plan is to make appointments. For example:

Monday, Zumba, 7pm
Tuesday, Elliptical, 12pm
Wednesday … you get the picture.

Here’s the kicker… if you miss an appointment for some reason, you have to reschedule for a different time that same week.

“But I’m a free spirit!” I whine. I hate being held to things. I feel…held down.

The irony of freedom is without accountability, there’s no freedom at all.  There is movement, but never in the same direction, and never forward. There is only…stuck in a rut.

Jamie is a Zumba instructor who more or less kidnapped me into Zumba, and I love it. It’s a dance exercise, and there is so much freedom in the dance.

The freedom, though, comes from following the steps.

  1. Appts are just too easy to break in my world! When can I sign up for the instructor to come to my house, drag me to class, kicking and whining? Just kidding.
