Like a Lot

I was terrified on my first visit to Wesley Chapel Mission Center (WCMC) in Over-the-Rhine. After all, I was a mom from the suburbs. I knew nothing at all about inner city kids. I had no idea what I was doing!

I watched with a strained smile as the kids arrived. One teen girl smiled back at me and shook her head.  Clearly she’d have her work cut out for her that day.

We partnered up. She led me through the activities, offered me a snack, and introduced me to her friends. She taught me some games. She sat by me at group time so I would know what to do.

And then at the end of the day, she hugged me and asked, “You’re coming back, right?”

How could I say no?
